Each year, alumni self-nominate or nominate peers who are ready to contribute by building relationships, strengthening connections, and supporting the college through meaningful engagement.
Nominations are now open for:
- Alumni Board at-large members and secretary
- Alumni Trustee
- Nominating Committee members
- Babson Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service

What We’re Looking For in Board Members
We are building a board that reflects the breadth of the Reed community.
Strong candidates:
- Stay connected to alumni in their networks
- Reach out and invite others to engage
- Work well with others
- Bring perspective, curiosity, and sound judgment
We consider a range of experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives across the community.
Roles & Expectations
- Alumni Board (At-Large Members)
- Secretary (Executive Committee Leadership Track)
- Alumni Trustee
- Nominating Committee
Alumni Board (At-Large Members)
Term: 3 years
Time commitment: ~3–5 hours per month
Board members are expected to:
- Stay connected to alumni in their networks and actively reach out
- Invite others to events and opportunities
- Help identify and welcome future volunteers
- Serve on a committee and contribute to shared goals
- Attend 4 meetings per year (1 in-person at Reunions, 3 virtual)
This is a working role. Participation matters.
Secretary (Executive Committee Leadership Track)
Term: 1 year
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating board communications and documentation
- Supporting committee work and accountability
- Partnering with Alumni Relations staff
- Helping guide board priorities and direction
This role is best suited for individuals ready to take on sustained leadership.
Alumni Trustee
Term: 4 years
Alumni Trustees:
- Serve on Reed’s Board of Trustees and Alumni Board
- Represent alumni perspectives at the institutional level
- Participate in governance and committee work
Strong candidates bring leadership experience, sound judgment, and the ability to represent the broader alumni community.
Nominating Committee
Term: 1 year (active July–September)
Members:
- Review nominations and help build a balanced board
- Evaluate candidates based on experience, perspective, and contribution
- Work collaboratively to select the next cohort of leaders
This role requires strong judgment and the ability to assess people and fit.
Why Serve on the Alumni Board
Serving on the Alumni Board is an opportunity to actively strengthen the Reed community and stay meaningfully connected to the college.
This is a working leadership role. Board members engage alumni by reaching out to peers, increasing program participation, and helping identify future volunteers and supporters.
The board helps:
- Strengthen connections between alumni, students, families and the college
- Increase participation in events and programs
- Support a culture of philanthropy
- Ensure alumni perspectives inform the college’s direction
Board members extend Reed’s reach by engaging their networks, inviting participation, and helping others reconnect.
In return, board members gain:
- A deeper connection to Reed and its community
- Relationships with alumni, students, and staff
- Experience in volunteer leadership
- A meaningful way to contribute time and perspective
Babson Award
The Babson Society Outstanding Volunteer Award honors alumni who demonstrate exceptional commitment to volunteer service and have made a lasting impact on the Reed community.
This award recognizes both individual contributions and the essential role volunteerism plays in strengthening connections among alumni, students, and the college.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a Reed College Alumni Association member (Reed alum)
- Demonstrates sustained commitment to volunteering and enhancing the Reed experience for alumni and students
- Has contributed at least 10 years of volunteer service (service may be ongoing)
- Examples may include: Alumni Board service, committee leadership, chapter leadership, or All for Reed involvement
- Must be nominated by a peer (self-nominations are not accepted)
