Alumni Relations & Volunteer Engagement

Call for Nominations for Alumni Board service starting in July 2026

Nominations are open June 1–July 15, 2025

Reed’s Alumni Board wants you—yes you! The Alumni Board is seeking innovative, bright, service-minded Reedies for next year’s board. Nominate yourself or someone you know via the nomination form.

NOMINATE ALUMNI

The alumni board is Reed’s national volunteer board of directors. Its purpose is to partner with the college to shape the alumni association’s goals, programs, and services, and represent the alumni in the broader Reed College community.

The call is also open for Honorary Alumni and Babson Award nominations.

The nominating committee strives for demographic balance on the Alumni Board, including class year, gender, ethnicity, major, geographic location, etc.

We are seeking nominations for the following positions:

At Large Member (Three-Year Term)

At-large members of the Alumni Board serve a three-year term, helping guide alumni engagement and support Reed’s mission. They attend five meetings per year (virtually or in person) and actively participate in a standing committee or task force. While prior volunteer experience with Reed is helpful, it’s not required—what matters most is a willingness to contribute time, insight, and Reedie spirit.

Secretary (One-Year Term)

The Secretary is an officer of the Alumni Board and a member of its Executive Committee. They support board operations by keeping records of meetings, updating essential documents, and stepping in for the Vice President when needed. This position typically marks the first year in a four-year leadership pathway through the Executive Committee and continues through vice-president, president, and past-president.

Alumni Trustee (Four-Year Term)

Alumni Trustees are alumni who serve on Reed’s Board of Trustees as representatives of the broader alumni community. Nominated by the Alumni Board, they act as liaisons—bringing alumni perspectives to the trustees and sharing college updates back with the Alumni Board. Alumni Trustees are typically experienced volunteers who are strong communicators and committed to supporting the college through service and giving.

Nominations Committee (One-Year Term)

Nominating Committee members help shape the future of alumni leadership at Reed by selecting the annual slate of candidates for the Alumni Board and Alumni Trustee roles. The committee is chaired by the immediate past president of the Alumni Board and includes the current president and three alumni who are not current board members. Members play a key role in identifying thoughtful, engaged Reedies to guide the alumni community.

Honorary Alumni

The Honorary Alumni designation recognizes individuals who have shown exceptional service and dedication to Reed College and its alumni community. Reserved for non-alumni who have significantly contributed to Reed’s success, this honor celebrates those whose leadership, integrity, and support embody the spirit of Reed. Note: Current employees, trustees, and Reed graduates (and their spouses/partners) are not eligible.

Babson Award

The Babson Society Outstanding Volunteer Award, established in honor of Jean McCall Babson ’42, recognizes exceptional volunteer efforts by Reed alumni. This award celebrates alumni who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and service to the college through sustained volunteerism. Recipients are honored for their significant contributions that have positively impacted the Reed community. The award has been bestowed on extraordinary Reed volunteers since 1987.

In all offices for which there is only one nominee on January 1, the nominee shall be considered elected as of that date, except that the board of trustees must approve the alumni trustee nomination. Additional nominations for each vacant position may be submitted by petition from the membership. Said petitions must contain the name and a brief biographical sketch of the nominee, the office to be filled, and the signatures of 50 or more members of the Alumni Association. Petitions must be received by the College on or before January 1. The nomination process may be viewed here in the constitution
