Annual Events
We offer a wide variety of events throughout the year. Each is an opportunity to meet and reconnect with fellow alumni. There are many ways to connect to the alumni community, from on-campus gatherings like Reunions to off-campus festivities like Westwind and chapter events to online career panels and faculty lectures.
Do you have a suggestion for a virtual or in-person program, or do you want to volunteer for an event committee or reunion class committee? Contact alumni@reed.edu for more information.
Alumni Chapter Events
In chapter cities, year-round
Reed's Alumni Chapters actively engage regional alumni in a variety of gatherings such as museum visits, happy hours, book clubs, and holiday parties. Alumni Chapter events also serve as a great place to connect with other Reedies in your area for jobs, help navigating a new city, and more.
Alumni College
Alumni College typically takes place adjacent to Reunions and gathers dozens of Reedies for a multiple-day deep dive with alumni experts in a particular field of study. It's our modern-day conference steeped in intellectual curiosity, critical conversations, and productive analysis (without the homework!).
Alumni Holiday Party
Annually in December
Witness the annual spectacle of Reed’s timeless Boar’s Head Procession and to celebrate the warmth and joy of the season! Enjoy everything from elegant food and drink to live music and a professional prom-style photo booth. Evening wear or festive dress is encouraged!
Alumni Travel Program
Various destinations, year-round
The Alumni Travel Program is a project of alumni engagement that provides Reed alumni with the opportunity to learn while traveling to various destinations around the globe. Trips are often led by a Reed professor or staff member who has expert knowledge of the place being visited and/or the topic being discussed. Traveling with Reedies is a chance of a lifetime.
Forum for Advancing Reed
Annually in the fall
The Forum for Advancing Reed (FAR) is a weekend of gatherings, workshops, and meetings for Reed volunteer leaders to share best practices, set priorities for the year, and gain an insider’s look at the future of Reed College.
Foster–Scholz Club Events
Year-round
The Foster-Scholz Club, named for the first two presidents of the college, was formed during the late sixties to provide an informal social group and events for early Reed alumni in the local area. The Foster-Scholz Club welcomes as members all alumni whose preferred class year is 40 or more years ago. Honorary alumni and retired faculty are also welcome to be members.
Paideia
On-campus, annually in January
Paideia is your chance to learn something new—and share what you know. Take over the classroom and plunge into a subject you’re passionate about, from the history of punk to the manufacture of chalk to Bollywood dance. Paideia takes place in January before spring semester classes begin.
Reed on the Road
Annually in March
Reed on the Road is a series of regional events designed for Reed alumni, parents, and friends of the college. These events offer rich institutional and academic content delivered by campus leadership and faculty. This event occurs in various cities during spring break.
Reed Remote
Virtually, year-round
We are pleased to offer a variety of virtual programs to facilitate meaningful connections no matter where you live or on what couch you’re sitting. Reed Remote is our wing of virtual engagement where you can find virutal seminars and affinity group gatherings that bring Reedies closer from across the globe to network and share. All events are hosted using Zoom technology and are free to attend.
Reunions
Annually in June
Reunions is about reconnecting with old friends and making new friends. More than 1,000 alumni, partners, friends, and children attend Reunions, which happens annually in June. All alumni are encouraged to attend, even if it's not a milestone reunion for your class year. Highlights include dance parties, feasts, and fires. Renn Fayre for alumni, you ask? Come see!
Westwind Weekend
On the Oregon coast, annually in fall
From the early ’60s through the early ’90s, students at Reed spent a weekend in the fall enjoying surf, sand, a talent show, green eggs and ham, and the unique setting that is Westwind on the Oregon coast. Reed alumni revived the tradition in 2002 with a family-friendly approach. Enjoy the start of fall (usually early October) with past and future Reedies, friends, and family at Westwind on the Oregon coast!
