Burn Your Draft Podcast
Burn Your Draft is a series of interviews conducted by host and producer, student Frank Tangherlini ’22, with help from Reed College alumnus Seth Paskin ’90 and supervised by Nate Martin ’16, Center for Life Beyond Reed. Throughout the year interviews will be conducted that explore and pick apart the senior thesis process. Each episode listeners will hear from a different Reed College alum or current student on their process, their topic, and what they’ve learned from the process. Burn Your Draft is a joint production of Reed College students, alumni, and staff and launched August 31, 2020. Listen here.
Alumni Photo Albums
Is your Instagram feed just not doing it for you anymore? Check out Reed’s alumni photo albums, which guarantee hours of browsing pleasure. Find your friends, revisit the canyon, or take a look at the reactor you were too much of a humanities major to visit when you were enrolled. And, upload your own photos of all things Reed to share with the Reed community!
Virtual Scriptorium
Missing your weekly foray into the focus and calm of calligraphy? Scriptorium alumna Jade Novarino ’16 hosts a weekly, contemplative two-hour scribe-in online Mondays from 2–4pm. Email jadenovarino@gmail.com with questions and for access to the Zoom link. The Berkeley Scriptorium, run by Naima Karczmar ’17, Liv Veazey ’18, and Oona Sullivan-Marcus ’19, are meeting every Saturday 12-2 PST through Zoom for a virtual Scriptorium. All are welcome. Email liv.veazey@gmail.com with questions and for access to the Zoom link.
You can also watch a series of Lloyd Reynolds’ lectures on the Reed College Heritage of Calligraphy website. This series follows Reynolds' book Italic Handwriting and Calligraphy and provides an excellent introduction to Reynolds and his work.
Finally, Gregory MacNaughton ’89, who directs Reed’s Scriptorium, makes the following generous offer to alumni calligraphers: “If you want me to see your work, critique your work, or just stay in touch, write me a letter. I'll be the best pen pal you've ever had.” Email alumni@reed.edu to begin your Scriptorium correspondence.
Recordings and Videos
Humanities 110 Lecture Series Recordings
You can now watch a selection of the Hum 110 lectures that were recorded by Reed faculty in spring 2020. More lectures will be added as they become available.
Reed Campus Architecture Video
Paul Edison Lahm ’83 has released part one of his video architecture tour of campus! Paul has led in-person tours for alumni, parents, and at Paideia for years, and while it’s not quite the same as touching and standing in front of the buildings and thinking about their materials, design, and history, Paul’s video makes a lot of historical connections and contributes to a better understanding of the larger narrative of the college. Watch Paul's video here .
